RIP Adri Bachan

I am not sure how many of you heard about the hit and run incident here at USC this past weekend. Here is a brief synopsis of what happened: Saturday night, or technically Sunday morning at 3 am, 2 USC students, a male and a female, were crossing the street at Jefferson and Hoover (using the crosswalk). A car came zipping through hitting both of them. The driver kept driving with the male student on the hood, stopped and shoved him off, then sped away. The male student survived and was in critical condition but is stable now. Unfortunately the female, Adrianna Bachan, was not so lucky. She died at the hospital shortly after arriving. I heard this news late Sunday morning and was upset about it. The more I think about it, the more upset I get. Can you imagine how upsetting that phone call was to her parents? To her roommate? I cannot even begin to imagine how I would react to that if that happened to my roommate. That is devastating. Adri lived in the same building I live in (I live on the 2nd floor, she lived on the 4th). I did not personally know her but I do remember passing her a few times. I remember that she was walking out and I was close behind and she held the door for me. The building just is not the same after hearing this. Sunday morning, before the name was released, I remember looking on facebook and seeing pictures posted by some friends who live in the suite next to us of the night before. They were hanging out with her at a party and she left before they did. The difference is she never made it back. She was so happy in those pictures, without the slightest knowledge of what would soon happen to her. Later that day everyone's status would soon change from talking about how fun that night was, to how much they miss her. The guys that were with her that night are understandably devastated. Guys that are usually happy and smiling most of the time are walking around with hoods on and sunglasses to hide how upset they are. It makes you think about how quickly things could change. She had her whole life ahead of her. She is just like me, a freshman at USC just studying to get to where she wanted to go in life but it was ended just like that, because someone could not just stop their car. That person never was caught, not yet anyways. While we are all mourning, they are off not knowing the pain they have caused to so many. It is not fair for that to happen to her. RIP Adrianna Bachan, you will be missed by all who have known you.

Back to the Ol' Grind

Spring Break is over and everything is falling back into place just as it was before I left. Sadly it feels like I never left which sucks because all the rest I got feels like it was wasted. But Spring Break was pretty good. I didn't do much of anything other than relax at home which was dramatic in and of itself. Nonetheless, it is done and over with and everything, for the most part, is back just the way it was before I left. Now, it's time for school. Over break I forgot that I have a chemistry lab write-up and pre-lab to do and a human reason paper to write. I decided against my better judgement to wait until tomorrow night to do both of those things. They are both due Tuesday. Right now I am just trying to unwind and whatnot. Tomorrow will be just like any other Monday. But there are only 2 months left of school which is really exciting to me. This year has been a tough one for many reasons. Blah. Tough but good. Rewarding? Hopefully in the end. Anyways, now that I am just rambling about nothing I will tell you what I did over Spring Break in more detail. I came to Lancaster and spent most of my time there hanging out with family and Bryan. I went to the zoo with everyone on Saturday then back to Lancaster. I visited the high school on Friday which was really fun seeing old teachers again. Then I went down to my dad's house in Simi Valley and hung out with the family there, and Bryan of course. Went to church this morning and then hung out some more. Then we went to my brothers girlfriend's choir performance all the way in Redlands. Now I am safely back here in my dorm at the lovely USC waiting for the week to start. That is all that is happening right now. Hope you enjoyed my little update!
Until next time,
Ciarra

It's Official...

Ciarra Coleman is no longer a biology major! Yayy! I am now in the major entitled "Health and Humanities" and I love it... even though my schedule is still the same as it was. It just helps knowing that the years to come will consist of much less biology and no more chemistry! [No offense Doug] In other news... well there isn't much other news other than that. Spring break begins for me tomorrow around 3:30 pm and I am so excited to be able to have a week off to spend with family, friends, and my boyfriend Bryan. I have no thrilling plans over the break other than just relaxing and whatnot, but I am really looking forward to it.

On the note of spring break beginning... I decided that the maturity levels of so many college students is simply non-existent. You'd think that because we are all in college, going out and getting drunk would not be the priority in our lives. Well many students begin their spring break today because they have no classes on Friday, including a few of my suite mates. So as I am sitting here in my room I hear "lets go out and get drunk!" No more to it. Just lets get drunk. The main point in their night is to get drunk. They are going out with the sole purpose of getting drunk. To what point? I really don't understand. It never has been my thing and I never have really understood it. I hear people talking like this very often though. I don't get the joy people find in just getting drunk. But hey, "to each his own" I suppose. [I heard Bryan say that the other day and really wanted to find a use for it so I could say it too] But I really don't appreciate their obnoxious drunkenness for two reasons: 1. It is keeping me up while I am trying to sleep because I have a big exam tomorrow. 2. It gives so many of us who do not drink a bad reputation. Why is it so hard to believe that I attend USC and do not get drunk on the weekends, or ever for that matter? Because of the people who do get drunk every weekend. It's so frustrating. I guess that [frustration] is just part of a day in the life of a college student. That's my reality.

You all can thank Sarah for this update. She really wanted me to update my blog. Thanks Sarah!

Until next time...

A Cyclical Life.

Ciao!
Let me start by saying I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Mine was pretty great. Friday I woke up feeling a little sick so I thought the weekend might have been ruined before it began, but it got better. I went to my classes and then Bry and I started on our journey to Lancaster. It was a nice drive, not too much traffic. We got there around 3 pm and went to his mom's house for a little while. Then to my house. Took my sister, Cailla, to meet our dad in Palmdale so she could go to his house for the weekend and then got Subway and went back to his mom's to watch Hancock which turned out to be a very funny movie (although I don't think that's what they were aiming for). Saturday was a nice day also. We went to lunch with my little brother, Bradley, my mom, Keri, and Bry's mom. Then that night Bry and I went cosmic bowling with Jill and her boyfriend Cal. Keri joined us there also. It was a lot of fun and was so nice to see Jill after months and months of not seeing her. Sunday we went to Chipotle and then I went to my dad's house. I arrived back on campus here at USC at 7 am this morning and went back to sleep until I had to get up at 9:15 to go to biology where a girl had a seizure so we got out of class early (Yay!) The teacher handled it horribly though. Made me wonder what he was really thinking. While she was having the seizure he decided that rather than help her, it would be better to explain to the class what is going on internally while someone has a seizure, what causes it and the physiology of the whole thing. Meanwhile, the girl is still having a seizure! Thankfully two of the students in the class were EMT's (or something similar) and rushed over to help her while Professor McClure continued to stand there doing nothing before telling us that we will finish on Monday so the two students could have space to help the girl. That was my eventful day.

On a slightly more intellectual note, on the drive to Simi Valley from Lancaster early Sunday evening I thought a lot about the world and everything happening in it. We drove by green hills which were beautiful, charred hills that showed destruction, construction that showed regrowth and several other things and it all got me thinking. Everything, in its own way, is cyclical. On a literal level, the grass sprouts, grows, and is burnt. The burning of the grass seems tragic at the time, but after it has burnt, it has healthier soil to grow back in, and once it grows back it looks even more beautiful than before. You can put so many things into that cycle and alter it the slightest bit to make it fit. I guess then ultimate message from this is that things must get worse before they can get better. I am not sure why I thought of that randomly in the car. I was just appreciating everything that I saw and thinking about how, as messed up as our world is at times, people take it all for granted. Especially living in such a wonderful country where we can safely travel so many miles with no worries and see so many different things, yet all so many people do is complain about it.

Enough deep thought for now. I'm tired. It's time for bed, or at least to relax.
Goodnight!
